At Amplify EyeCare of Greater Long Beach we are one of the few practices in the greater Los Angeles area that specializes in neuro optometric rehabilitation. Neuro optometric rehabilitation extends beyond traditional eyecare that is focused on the eye health and the prescription that a patient needs, and focuses on the vision deficits experienced from a traumatic brain injury. Some studies show that as many as 90% of people with a traumatic brain injury will experience visual dysfunction.

Typically people who experience visual deficits following a traumatic event will experience symptoms that are a result of a disruption to the communication between the brain and the eyes or a disruption of the brain's processing of visual information, this condition is called Post Traumatic Vision Syndrome. Symptoms can be experienced immediately following the traumatic brain injury, however in some cases these symptoms take months or even years to manifest fully.

What Symptoms Should A Nurse Case Manager or Attorney Look Out For?

Typically patients will experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • blurred vision
  • Double vision
  • Sensitivity to light or glare
  • Reading difficulty
  • Dizziness/vertigo
  • Headaches/migraines
  • Difficulties with eye movements and tracking

What are the benefits of working with a neuro optometrist with experience in workers compensation and litigation?

The most important reason why a nurse case manager, attorney, or adjustor will choose to work with our practice is the experience in diagnosing and treating patients with post traumatic vision syndrome. However there are also other reasons why our office is referred to over a traditional optometrist or ophthalmologist.

To successfully work with these patients requires a deeper understanding of the claims process for injury claims with health insurers’ and automobile PIP Medical insurers. A neuro optometrist will need to provide more thorough documentation to satisfy the claims processes for first party insurers and third party claims.

When working with litigation it is important to choose a neuro optometrist that has experience with subpoenas for medical records, depositions, consultations with the patient’s attorney, testimony preparation, and actual mediation/arbitration/trial testimony.

What is workers compensation?

Employees who become ill or injured on the job receive workers' compensation benefits for their medical bills, lost wages, and rehabilitation costs.
