The sport of golf requires an exceptionally high level of concentration and precision. You need many vision skills to succeed while you play golf, whether you're playing long-range swings or shorter putts. A few improvements could make a big difference on the course. Regardless of whether you're an amateur who loves to play with his friends on weekends or a professional who plays at a college or professional level, sports vision therapy can significantly improve your golf performance.

What vision skills are the most important for golfers?

A combination of several visual skills is required to succeed at golf.

  •  Eye focusing: Improved eye focusing allows for more rapid switching between near and distant objects. In particular, improving this skill is incredibly important for putting.
  • Eye teaming: This is the ability to converge and diverge the eyes accurately and efficiently. Mastering this skill makes estimating the field and reading the greens easier.
  • Depth perception: This is your awareness of where you are in space in relation to other things. A golfer must be able to accurately judge the distance between the ball and the target and the conditions of the green in order to decide which club to use and hit the ball perfectly.
  • Visualization: In golf, which is a sport that demands intense concentration, visualization is particularly important. You'd be able to visualize where the ball is and where it's going with great visualization skills.
  • Hand-eye coordination: There is a lot that goes into making a good swing. Both hitting and putting the ball require extreme precision in order to get it to fly in the right direction with the right amount of force. Developing good hand-eye coordination can make the difference between a good swing and a great one.
  • Contrast sensitivity: This skill allows you to identify subtle differences in color that others may not notice. For example by improving contrast sensitivity, golfers can figure out the direction of the grain and whether the grass is wet or dry and adjust their approach accordingly.
